Good ole Senator McCaskill, "my" senator. Once again, she shows just how clueless she can be:

Charlie Pierce puts it best (as always):
Is there a Democratic incumbent outside of the state of West Virginia less worth re-electing than Claire McCaskill in Missouri? That it remains vitally important that she be re-elected makes me want to remove my eyeballs with fondue forks. And, no, I don't believe the anonymous aide's bullshit explanation, either.
One day, Claire. The voters of Missouri can't spare the electricity of your very presence for one fcking day so you can support a president of your own party, and express solidarity with the national party that you're going to need to get re-elected so you can go back to the Senate and start worrying about "common ground" again? It's one thing to be a coward. It's another to be an ingrate. It's quite amazing to be both.
Once again, "Blanche" McCaskill seems to think that the seven undecided voters outside of St Louis and Kansas City are going to a) even pay attention to this, and b) suddenly be swayed into thinking she's not some Obama-loving soshalist who wants to setup death panels and take away our guns.
As always Madame Senator, voters here see that "D" after you name and it doesn't make any difference how far you try to back peddle from the party: they're not going to vote for you.
Claire has spent the last five years alienating what's left of a Dem base here in Missouri. While her voting record isn't as Blue Dog as one might think, her public utterances over the years betray a fundamental lack of understanding the basic party concept of "do no wrong". She does these things, says this crap with the expectation that independents and Republicans here will reward her cowardice. It never works out that way. She has continually looked for love in all the wrong places, has gone out of her way to alienate her base while lusting after people who will never waver in their hatred of her.
Remember that "D" after your name Madame Senator. As far as the seven so-called independents left in the state, that might as well be a scarlet "S" on your forehead.
Now, a fellow Missouri political blogger thinks that this is savvy on her part because of Labor and LGBT support's issues with the convention being held in Charlotte. Perhaps but this statement is typical stuff by the Most Scared Sitting Senator whenever she thinks the right is more out to get her than usual.
And yet, as Pierce points out, outside of possibly Dianne Feinstein, McCaskill needs to be re-elected. If not, there's a good chance we won't control either part of Congress and if that doesn't happen, the President might as well take off for the next 2-4 years because we've already spent 2 years seeing how that version of "Groundhog Day" will play out.
So Madame Senator, you damn well better hope that the crawl-over-glass Dems make it a point of voting for you. You're lucky in that any of your three possible opponents are pretty pathetic candidates, even by modern Missouri Republican Party Machine wingnut standards.
I know, I know, she's a Dem Senator in a state that is far redder than most people think (I live in the second reddest county in the state). Again, nobody's asking her to be Bernie Sanders, we expect you to be the milquetoast Senator that you are. What we're asking for is that she "do no harm". You need to be a moderate, we get that. But you also need to act like you're not afraid of being associated with the party you nominally belong to. That means going to the convention. Don't be surprised if the Obama campaign decides to bail on Missouri because of this kind of thing. You'd benefit, at least among the rural base, with issue ads hammering Rmoney and reminding people about what the stakes are this year.
If you get chucked out on your arse come November, you can look to things like this decision, your FISA vote, etc., as to why you lost.
